What changes?
A modification changes an existing mortgage's terms. Compare the proposed payment and total cost; approval is not guaranteed.
Make the review practical
Bring your mortgage statement, recent income information and letters from the mortgage company. If you have an offer, bring every page, including any trial-payment instructions. Write down what you can realistically afford each month.
Keep court papers separate
Tell us about any lawsuit, hearing or sale date. Do not assume a modification request resolves a court deadline. Call promptly rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
Questions worth asking
- What would I pay each month?
- What would I owe over the full loan term?
- What documents or decisions are still missing?
- Are there court dates that need attention now?
